On Friday I went and helped at preschool, in the morning, There were more kids there and it made for a busy and louder morning. We enjoyed a quiet evening eating pizza, playing games and watching a movie with Marisol and her kids. It was a pretty low key day.
On Saturday we went to Placencia for the night. The 3 hour drive was so beautiful. Even though it may not be that far in miles, every time you some to a village there are lots of speed bumps and you have to slow down. It was just Margaret, Zion, and I that went. We stayed in the guest house of Margaret's friends, Jim and Anna. They live just a short walk to the Caribbean. When we got to Placencia on Sat, we first went to Tuttie Fruttie for some gelato! It was soo good. Then we walked around the town, and through some of the gift shoppes, and stepped foot in the Caribbean. We had lunch and a place called Cozy Corner. I had fish and chips, and the fish was fresh! Sunday morning we went to Jim and Anna's church, where Jim is the pastor. I enjoyed the morning and it was cool to go to another church. I enjoyed their worship. There were a lot of kids. The kids go downstairs during the service and all of a sudden the church was quite empty. They say it varies how many parents come, as the kids just come from around the neighborhood. We went out for lunch with some other couples from church. For lunch I had Raquel's Crispy Fried Chicken! It was pretty good. Then we started the drive home.
Monday I spent the day doing nothing much. It was my day off and it felt good to unwind. Although to keep things interesting around here, we ended up with 3 extra kids for the night. A 15 year old boy and two girls that are 11 and 5, and they only speak Spanish. So I couldn't really communicate with them. It was cool how the twin's and Zion interacted with these kids. Even though there was a language barrier they still were able to play together.
On Tuesday the kids left in the morning. Shortly after they left a couple came for a visit. During the visit, Margaret got a call from the social worker. The 3 kids were coming back for another night. The were only gone about 2 hours. They were unable to return to El Savador, where they were from, with their mom. In the afternoon while the little ones napped, Margaret taught the 15 and 11 year old how to play Qwirkle. They must have enjoyed it because they asked to play another round. The game ended up being played mostly in Spanish. I wish I knew Spanish. I can pick up on the odd thing, because it either sounds like English or French. Sometimes I try to think of something I might know how to say in Spanish but my mind just goes to French.
On Wednesday the kids left just before lunch. With hopes of being reunited with their mom. However that was not the case. They came back late afternoon. This time to stay for a couple of days. This kids are so sweet and take care of themselves and each other.
This morning I went and helped in the preschool. I never have been to good at learning names, but it is harder here, because most kids have names I have never heard of, or don't know how to say because of the way they are spelled and they also pronounce things differently here. But I'm sure I will eventually learn the names. Enjoying some overcast and rainy days.
