Tuesday was an average day. Today I was especially missing home.
Wednesday was election day here in Belize. And things are done quite a bit differently then at home. Though there are some things I can't be to sure about because I wasn't in the country for these last elections :) Here their are 2 parties the PUP and the UDP. The UDP won the election. Here the parties can campaign on the day of elections, and try to convince you that their party is better right till you get in line to vote. In the evening cheers and horns could be heard all over the place. There were even fireworks! On election day their is no school so the teachers can go vote and because the poles are held in the schools. Here's another random fact about their schools, the last Friday of every month is payday, so the students only have half a day so the teachers can go cash their cheques! Guess what it was also "cooler" today!! By cooler I mean it was about 27 and probably a bit warmer with the humidity, and cloudy and rainy till late afternoon, then the sun came out. Was sooo thankful for the cooler day and how refreshing it was. I don't think I even broke a sweat today just sitting!
Well, today (Thursday) felt like a full day! This morning I went and helped out at the preschool. Then I went to a lady from church's house over lunch. Her name is Ms Mirna and she lives right across from the preschool and church. (One of these days I will have to take a picture!) Then I walked home. It was about a 40 min walk, and uphill. I've learn't to live with the sweat, well at least till I get home and take a cold shower :) Spent the evening helping babysit a baby.
Before I left I was told rice and beans is a big thing down here and I better start liking beans, as I'm not a huge fan of them. Well, rice and beans are big down here, but Margaret doesn't really like beans either and therefor she doesn't make rice and beans. I have only had rice and beans once. She does cook rice though :) So thankful that we have some common interests in the foods we like and don't like :) I am still learning and observing different customs here. Sometimes I am not sure how to respond to different things because I am not sure what the custom is. I was told that the Creole people are very rough and outspoken and I am finding this to be true.
Pray that I wont become discouraged and that I will be able to be a light in everything I do. And for an extra measure of patience.
So glad that you share your prayer requests, although we pray for you daily, it is also nice to know your struggles. Love you so much, and can't wait to give you a big ((HUG))
