Wednesday was just another day here in Belize. It was sunny and warm.
Thursday was Garifuna Day. This is a public holiday here in Belize that is Celebrated each year on November 19. This holiday celebrates the settlement of the Garifuna people in Belize, after they had been exiled from the Grenadine by the British army. This people group is more commonly found along the coast and the major festivities for the holiday happen in Dangriga. The twins are Garifuna. We went to Spanish Lookout in the afternoon. We squished 9 people into a truck that seats 5. It was a squishy ride, but I enjoyed getting out and seeing more of the area. Spanish Lookout is about a 30-40 minuet drive from home.
Friday was preschool again. It was children's day so we played games and we all had tacos and cheese dip for a snack. This morning the 3 kids were able to be deported back to El Savador. In the evening I had bible study with a couple girls. I'm enjoying getting to know the girls and see where their hearts are at. I played a game with Margaret later in the evening and enjoyed her company. I also learned more about Marisol and the amazing story she has.
Saturday morning was spent cleaning. In the afternoon we went downtown to the market for a bit. I had thought that Friday was the day that most vendors were at the market, there were even more on Saturday. So Saturday is the day to go to the market.
On Sunday after church we had Auntie Iso and her kids L'Lih and Tre over for lunch. L'Lih and and Tre are both kids that Margaret has looked after before they were adopted by Auntie Iso and her husband. All three of them have November birthdays so we celebrated them with lunch. After they left another lady stopped by for a short visit. In the evening we went to a bible study at church. It was a quiet evening.
This morning I woke up at 5:30 to the sound of the truck unlocking and the dog barking. It turns out that Margaret had to go the boarder to pick up the mom of the 6 kids that spent a evening with us earlier this month. She was on her way back from Gautama, where she was visiting her mom. Later Margaret had to take her to the police station, as there were issues at home again. It was a beautiful day here. I did some laundry and baked some muffins. I also went for a walk to this smoothie place. It was up hill most of the way their, but then the walk home it was all downhill :) I also made sure to pick up some doughnuts from the place next door. They have the best doughnuts ever!
Although there are some things I can't really go into detail about, things are constantly changing here. You never know what will happen with the different kids. Sunday the house was feeling very empty and after a quiet week, tomorrow will be another busy day, as the house is full again. I've been asked what are your plans for the rest of the week or tomorrow, well around here we just go with the flow. Sure we can make plans, but those plans can change quickly if there are kids in need of a place to stay. Just like we may make our own plans in life, but the Lord determines our steps. We need to be open to him and willing to go where he calls us. Looking forward to what this week might bring.
