Well on Wednesday it was officially one more month until Christmas. It was another busy day here. In the afternoon a couple Johnathon and Michelle came over to play games and they ended up staying for supper. Margaret had invited a lady over for pizza because it was her birthday, but she was unable to make it, so we had pizza with Johnathon and Michelle, and Marisol and the kids joined us as well. It was a great time.
Thursday was preschool again, and it seems that whenever I am gone for a couple of hours things change again around here. Today I came home to find out that we were getting 2 more boys from Guatemala. An 9 year old and a 7 year old! And again they only speak Spanish. I guess it's time I learn some Spanish. Although, they left 2 hours later, showered and with a fresh set of clothes.
After a busy couple of days with lots of kids coming and going I came home from Preschool on Friday to a quiet house. And that's the way the day went. In the evening I had bible study. We also got another girl for the weekend. A 13 year old girl.
Saturday was one of those days where you feel like you do nothing and the day flies by and it still feels busy. I don't know if that makes any sense, but that was the kind of day it was here. The first part of the morning ticked by what I thought was slowly, and thinking that at home everyone was probably still sleeping or just getting up. Then I made some cookies with the Angelica, the 13 year old girl. Then we had a bit to eat and watched a movie for something to do. Then I had some time to myself. Mid afternoon a lady showed up for coffee. (She is also the lady that is having some trouble with her husband and has a messy home situation). A little later another couple showed up. Then Marisol came. She has been house sitting for a lady down the road a ways. And then one by one they all left. Then we had supper and called it a day. Just like that the day was over. I also really need to learn Spanish. That was my day in a nutshell. I also got to see a picture of what my daddy was up too today and watch a video of my cousin and his obsession with the Peterson Farm Brothers. :) I enjoyed seeing the random bits from the lives of those back home. You made my day. Another happy surprise was, when I opened my suitcase for the first time since unpacking and finding another shirt in their :)
Sunday we went to church again. I've started teaching Sunday School, ages 4-6. Today their ended up being 2 kids but that is the most I've had, other times their has only been 1. But we still make it work. We went out for lunch to celebrate the 80th birthday of a lady from church. We also spent some time with one of Margaret's friends from Belize City. In the evening we went to bible study. And that was Sunday.
Monday was another quiet day. I went downtown for a couple of hours and just spent some time wandering around. And taking in the sights. Bought a star fruit at the market. It was good! It has a bit of a sour and tart taste to it. I would compare it to an apple. I enjoyed supper with Margaret and some of her friends, who happen to be from Portage. Angelica also left this morning, but she came back at supper time. It was a nice quiet day.
Today was another quiet day. I spent some time with Angelica, and got to see how she makes flour tortillas. We also spent some time playing games.
An update on the kids from El Savador, They met their mom at the airport here in Belize and they were all able to fly home together.
The last couple weeks have been a roller coaster of kids coming and going. It takes special people to take in kids that are all in different stages in life, and carry a different story as to why they come into Margaret's care. And then when the time comes to let them go again. Some are here for night, others week, then there are those who spend a couple months or even a year or more. Margaret has that special gift, and it is amazing watching her. She shows God's love to everyone who walks through her door. We have had a crazy last couple of weeks. We have gone from 3 kids to 6, then to 4, then to 1. Then there were 3 again. Then for a couple of hours there were 5 kids. The next day we were down to 1 again, but it didn't stay that way for long. Just a couple of hours and then there were 2. That is the last 3 weeks here. A constant stream of kids. I am glad for the experience and thankful for Margaret for letting me be apart of her life here. Their never seems to be a dull moment around here.
