I have enjoyed being able to spend the last 10 days with my mom. On her first Saturday here we took in the San Ignacio market, where we wandered the different stands, ate Pupusas for lunch, and of course bought some fresh fruits and vegetables. She also got to experience a taxi ride. She also got to meet Zeriah, the girl I help with her reading.

Sunday morning my mom got to experience what church is like for me, as well as Sunday school. In the afternoon we went for a walk down the Bullet Tree Road (which is the main road that we live by) and showed her all the Chinese grocery stores. We went to 3 different stores, within a 15 min walk of where I live. In the afternoon we also had a family from California come that stayed with us for the week and helped around the house. In the evening we all pilled into the truck and went to bible study. We managed to get 11 people there with 1 truck, it was a bit tight!!

Monday mom got to meet the twins!! It was good to see them again. Later in the afternoon we took a shuttle to the water taxi in Belize City. We then took the taxi to the Island of Caye Caulker. This was the first time I had been seen Belize City. The water taxi was also fun to take. After finding our hotel and leaving our stuff, we went out for supper. I tried lobster for the first time, and it was even fresh lobster!!

For Tuesday I had convinced my mom to go on the full day of snorkeling with me (she doesn't like water)!! But then it rained all day, so we couldn't go :( We made good use of our hotel that day. We did wander out for supper, the streets were pretty empty, and muddy. After supper we took a taxi (golf cart) back to our hotel to avoid getting so wet. Lets just say it is a whole lot cheaper to take a taxi here in San Ignacio!
 |
| We had to walk the muddy streets to go out for supper. At least there was a break in the rain, so we didn't get all wet. |
 |
| It looked like a ghost town at night, with very few people out because of the rain. |
Wednesday morning the clouds broke and the sun came out, and I was able to go snorkeling in the morning. It was neat seeing all the different fish and other sea creatures. And it was fun just being a fish :) Although it did a bit to figure out the technique. After my time snorkeling we went for pizza and gelato! Then it was time to leave. As we were waiting for our water taxi it started to rain again. Glad we were able to enjoy some sun in the morning. It was a fun time away.

Thursday morning it was back to a bit of a regular routine, in the fact that I went to preschool in the morning. My mom stopped by for the last hour and was able to see what that is like. After we went to Pops for lunch. It's a little breakfast place, and it was here that we tried Fried Jacks. After lunch we look a taxi to Cahal Pech to see some Mayan Ruins. On our way back from the ruins we stopped for doughnuts and smoothies. In the evening we went out for supper and ice cream with Margaret.

Friday morning I went to preschool again and then I met my mom downtown at the market. While we were sitting there a guy comes up to us and starts making conversation. He was asking specific questions about what I was doing down here, and telling us about his family. The whole time I was trying to figure out if I'd met him before, or if was a friend of Margaret's. He was an american guy, and I couldn't figure it out. After he left I asked my mom who he was, it turns out she had talked to him before and explained why she was down here and also why I was. Then it all made sense, I had never seen him before :) While downtown we did some more wandering and shopping. We had pupusas again for lunch. In the evening we had pizza and played games, back at Margaret's.
Saturday we went to Spanish Lookout for a time of worship and fellowship. It was cool to see all these ladies from different parts of Belize come together. For supper that night my mom and I did the cooking. It was fun being able to help my mom make supper, as it's been a while since we've worked together in the kitchen :)

Sunday for church we went to the EMMC church in Spanish Lookout, and we were invited out for lunch. On the way home we took a little driving tour of Barton Creek, which is a conservative Mennonite community. When we got home my mom and I went for a walk and enjoyed a one last quiet evening together

In our family we have started this thing where we don't say "Good Bye" but we say "See You Later". And that's what me and my mom did on Monday. I enjoyed my time with her immensely. Parting ways at the air port wasn't any easier the second time around, I know that I will be ok and that the missing home will become less again.

I can feel the excitement as I read the blog! And the smile on your face says it all!!!
